I frequented the area back in the ‘70s, when I was a student at DePaul U.
It was nice, upscale.
When my parents attended DePaul in the early-mid 60s, the campus and area around the Fullerton “L” station was safe, but go more than a couple of blocks off of campus in any direction and it was unsafe. Part of why there are so many beautiful old buildings still standing in the area (such as along Armitage Avenue to the south)...in the “urban renewal” era, developers and their bulldozers weren’t going within a country mile of Lincoln Park.
