He sent Texas National Guard to DC in the great patriotic war lockdown of the city. He didn’t send them to the border except as a welcoming committee. He was a complete tool during the lockdowns and stood by letting the democrats do nothing. He is just another bushie and has done all he can to recruit in California, Chicago, New York etc. He flipped Texas the finger in that aftermath of the freeze last year, and he was right in the thick of causing it with his retarded windmills solar and Ercot.

He is originally from Florida, where he held a US House seat for a while. However, that was quite some time ago, and he has become involved in Texas politics since moving there a few years ago.

Also the Bushes--Bush 41 was born in Massachusetts and Bush 43 was born in Connecticut--both states are a long way from Texas.

This article and your post rest on the assumption that Abbott’s support is waning because he has one RINO staffer. Just on its face it’s a totally ridiculous claim. First you would have to show that the staffer’s presence resulted in some unknown RINO policies from Abbot. Neither you nor this article have done anything of the sort. On the contrary, Abbott’s most controversial policy has been to outlaw mask and vaccine mandates.
I would say there are two large factors at work.
1. Abbott is a well-worn politician, and was destined to have a tight race no matter who he faced.
2. The valentine’s day 2021 cold front and power outages are being blamed on Abbott. I agree that Abbott shares some of the blame. However, first on the blame list is the power grid set up by George W. Bush where nobody is ultimately responsible for providing Texas electric customers with electricity.
But we aren’t seeing any conservative vilification of Bush’s socialist power system. All we see is more socialists pointing fingers at the conservative stuck with making a silk pourse out of a sow’s ear.

Abbott is a RINO. He’s demonstrated that too many times to list. It’s campaign season so he’s running to the right. Huffines or West would be best for Texas.

You missed the father son duo anti Trumpers working for Abbott. So there are at least 2 and from his weak positioning of following the headwinds they are either very influential or there are more like them on staff.
His unwillingness to seriously address transgender mutilation via legislation is one of my objections. As you mentioned the problems with Ercott and TEUC is another. Abbott appointees pretty much screwed the before, during, and after response. I agree about W Bush and Perry loved him some wind energy and also like Big Pharma ideas like mandatory vaccines for children. Gardisil. Very disappointed in him over that. He has pretended to do a border fence and it is week but costly. He brags about arresting illegals but they then have to turn them over to Biden officials and you know the rest. Border patrol and national guard are exhausted and demoralized. There have been payroll problems for national guard I believe under Abbotts watch. Abbott and Lt Gov for that matter have not been strong enough on voter security even after the legislature had some good bills. He should have demanded the speaker of the house, barely even a RHINO, punish with conviction those Dems who ran off to DC for a political stunt. He actually signed a bill that weakened punishment for vote fraud. WHAT?!!!! Then tried to back track when called out. Then there is the big talk but no action against covid vaccine and mask mandates. He could have pushed and gotten laws passed to give it teeth. It looks like he and the Bushies recruited Eva Guzman to leave Supreme Court of Texas to challenge a great State AG Paxton. WHY?!!!!
