Politico is sounding a bit like Ricardo Montalbán in Fantasy Island.
What is it with the media and President Donald Trump dropping out of the election contest fantasies? They seem to be cropping up quite a bit lately. One common thread of these wishful thinking projections is the claim that Trump is facing such a bleak election outlook that he will simply drop out of the race before the election.
The latest example of Trump dropping out wishful thinking comes to us in Wednesday's Politico in which John F. Harris and Daniel Lippman envision Trump conveniently doing the Democrats a big favor by sparing them the angst of going through a tough election process. This fantasy comes as a part but really the essential part of seven things they think could happen because 2020 is such an unusual year.

They are now like scared little children.They read the ABC Wapo survey showing Trump voters are a stunning 35 points more enthusiastic than Biden voters.
PDJT would wallop Biden in an election if it were held now.
(and when Biden finally has to announce the real DNC candidate, namely his VP, chances are it will be so communist/offensive that Biden’s loss will go from major to monumental).

They’ve had this fantasy for 5 years. In 2015-16 I heard over and over again that Trump wasn’t going to actually run, or he’d run in a few primaries and then drop out. After the Billy Bush tapes, they said he’d drop out. Once he actually became president, the media/dem complex thought that if they made his presidency a living hell he’d drop out. I’ve heard that off and on from 2017 up to right now. It is their umtimate fantasy, that’s what they have to cling to since they haven’t been able to impeach him or convict him of anythting.

Notice the usual timed coordination? All the polls get onto the front pages of websites and TV news to help Biden. Then not named but “certain GOP insiders say they despair of polls getting even worse.” Followed by “Some GOP experts on election strategies now say Trump may drop out like LBJ in 1968.” “A source agreed.” No names.
Yeah, it’s the phony story authors who HOPE that.
...And now we know the plan behind the preposterous poll results being published by the drive-by fake news media. For those who wondered why alleged journalists are willing to set fire to what’s left of their dwindling reputations by spreading absurd lies...now we know: psychological warfare.
President Trump has a lot of battles to finish. He’s not going anywhere.

Donald J Trump is a “never give up, never surrender” Churchill-type and Gen Patton-type, and always has been. He will never drop out. It’s just not in his nature.
