No reparations need be paid by direct descendants of Union soldiers who fought to end slavery in the Civil War.
Almost a million or more casualties in the Civil War. Reparations paid in full, in blood and lives.
I the idiotic idea of reparations was ever implemented, the “administrators” overseeing the program would pocket 99.999% of the money and the indented beneficiaries would get a coupon for a free dinner at best...
The Chappelle skit nailed it. It would only be a short period of time before “Whitey” gets all the money back.
That’s why Corporations are jumping on board, they will reap the windfall!

I think we could insure that all people get an equal opportunity at an education and that we do not discriminate in our hiring and employment practices. I think we could insure that people are all treated equally when interacting with our government—police, fire, etc.
Equal Opportunity is something I feel strongly about.
This does not guarantee equal outcomes. Those are up to the people, their families, and...in a lot of cases, damn luck.
I like that ... give a convicted minority, muslim, or whatever a $1,000 check and a one-way airplane ticket to Krapistan or Africa, or where-ever. Remind them that it is a death sentence to be caught in the USA ever again.
One billion USD will send millions of undesirables away.

Let’s ask the the ancestors of the many blacks who owned slaves and see what they’ll pay.
When European slave traders arrived, if the African kings didn’t have enough captives to sell, additional Africans were bought from the Arab slave traders. So, I’d say that the Arab countries should have to pay half and the Africans pay half.
Remember Zanzabar where blacks massacred up to 20,000 Arabs in 1964 once the British left.
There were also people who voluntarily went into slavery- it was like having a job.
Not EVERY person was kidnapped and brought here in chains.
People in the USA did not go there to capture and kidnap slaves- they went to Africa because that is where the slave markets were.
Many slaves had great working relationships AND STAYED ON as hired hands after slavery was abolished.
As a friendly amendment to your comment—should this be changed to:
“Let’s ask the the DESCENDANTS of the many blacks who owned slaves and see what they’ll pay.”
And now that you have mentioned it—I seem to recall that there were a large number of okra plantations in the coastal regions of North and South Carolina that were owned by black families for generations, and that their okra cultivation required far far more laborers than did cotton or other southern crops. How difficult would it be to track down the descendants of those black slaveholders, and get them to pay their fair share, based on the number of slaves their forebears owned? (Of course, it might get complicated if those slaveholding ancestors, and/or their descendants, intermarried with descendants of black slaves emancipated during or after the Civil War.)
Also as a friendly amendment to your suggestion, we should also check with the descendants of the Native Americans who lived in the antebellum South, and owned a significant number of black slaves. They might be asked to chip in a few dollars to the cause......
