My daughter recently moved into a new built house. It is far more efficient than my 25 year old house. Very tight and well insulated. Much more efficient furnace, air conditioner, appliances, and lighting. My church recently completely replaced all lighting with LED, a couple hundred fixtures. Significant reduction in energy use.
When I switched from incandescents to CFLs, I saw an immediate drop of about $7/month in my electric bill. Now I use LEDs and I think they are even more economical. It is irrational to be against energy efficiency.
The reduction in your church’s labor cost for changing bulbs is probably several times the energy cost savings.
