I think the goal is to get a majority of votes in the Senate. Mitt will probably deliver. The rats will use it as a club throughout the 20 campaign.
The GOP certainly hates Trump every bit as much as the Dems do but they are not suicidal. It was always a very long shot for the Dems that Trump would quit or the GOP Senate would vote to convict. The Dems know that, obviously.
The Uniparty coupist goals have never changed: daily anti-Trump garbage for fake news cycle, divide/demoralize the GOP and energize the Dem base.
Don’t misunderstand. A majority is not removal. That takes 2/3.
The Rats desperately want the majority so they have the optic that “a bipartisan Majority of the Senate voted to convict” the President. The treasonous Mitt only needs 4 to give the rats a club to beat on Trump with throughout the 20 campaign.
