Every “normal” person apparently already knows this. I won’t hammer details.
I’m here to point out that Captain James T. Kirk is not an exception. Kirk is a born conservative. And “a cowboy,” yes. But, he is a dedicated warrior of his own era. And, of our era, too, thanks to....

My own Trek metaphor for these times is this: Donald Trump has a functioning Corbomite Device.
Sometimes he uses Code 3, and when appropriate, Code 2.
Socialism failed everywhere it was tried.
Look at Russia and all the E. European countries, they all rejected it, after it was tried for way too long and are all happier now.
Today's Democrat Party....................
Yet, millions in America say they adore and want socialism. And they vote.

There are still a few places where they have communism: N. Korea and Cuba. (Even China is slowly easing up on it.)
These people who want to live in communism should move to N. Korea or Cuba.
Socialism is like a STD. It’s fun getting it but the consequences are horrible. Those who “adore and want socialism” have never had socialism..........

That’s the end result of socialism.
That is my recollection, however, if it did it does not reconcile with this image:

See the issue with socialism and communism is that the mush minds that are all for it, truly believe that they will be the ones deciding what everyone else will be forced to do.

Interesting. Though I don’t share the writer’s awe of the “Star Trek Continues” fanfic.
I still watch Star Trek on BBC America. The originals are the best in my opinion. Shatner was the man. One episode had a planet with warring factions called the Coms and the Yangs. It was quintessential American patriotism.
