The issue is the way the FBI/CIA was leaking information to the media for the sole purpose of getting it published in the public domain ... and then using the published information as the legal grounds for getting FISA warrants.
That's the crux of this story, folks. When you hear about how the DOJ redacts reports "to protect sources and methods," they're not doing this to shield the identities of undercover agents or secret methods of surveillance. They're doing it to keep the public from finding out that media outlets like CNN, NBC, the New York Times, the Washington Post, etc. are FBI/CIA assets that were used to justify FISA surveillance on U.S. citizens.
