There was no let up in sight for devastating floods across the U.S. Central Plains states that have already killed two people, torn apart homes and businesses and cut off small towns, forecasters said on Sunday.
Water levels were expected to rise through the week, according to the National Weather Service, prompting evacuations in communities along the Missouri River on the Nebraska and Iowa border, as well as the Elkhorn and Platte rivers in Nebraska.
Were looking at widespread flooding that continues until at least early next week in the Plains and Midwest region, said meteorologist Marc Chenard with the services Weather Prediction Center.
The big ones are at record stages right now, Chenard said. There have been levy breaks so there are towns that are flooded.
Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts, who declared a statewide emergency last week, wrote on Twitter that he witnessed unbelievable devastation when he visited several flooded communities on Saturday.
Towns and communities have been cut off by floodwaters while others have seen fresh drinking water become scarce.

If you live close to water once in a while you will be in the water.
This flooding isn’t for those just ‘close to the water”.....it’s half the state of Nebraska and other states...
I wonder if the Arkansas, West of Dodge City now has water in it?
When I lived in Garden City, KS the river was usually dry. Once I was doing some plinking in the dry river bed. I noticed water approaching maybe a hundred yards away. After maybe 10 minutes it reached me and I moved a few hundred yards down stream.
By the time I left, it was just reaching me again.
Once again we see inexorable power beyond humans’ ability to control.
And all because of a few ppm of carbon dioxide. Amazing. /s/

Flooding can happen anywhere. Here in WI we had flooding on the East side of Green Bay and in the city of Fond du Lac, and that was due to the snow melting and some rainfall, which caused the rivers to rise.
15 Iowa counties alone have been declared Disasters.....
Exactly. Ice jams blocked off the rivers until massive rain plus snowmelt forced its way through with a wall of water behind. And with the ground still frozen there was no place for it to go.
Horrifying !
.
Also the snow “Bomb Cyclone” had previously where there was already snow accumulation....
While river depths were starting to level off in parts of Nebraska on Sunday, the water is so high in many places that serious flooding is expected to continue before this is over....people still being evacuated...
Looks wadable? @ 18 cfs today. https://waterdata.usgs.gov/ks/nwis/current/?type=flow
