It's not a historical image. It's a costume, likely from halloween. From a time when blackface wasn't yet considered something that would make everyone ran for the fainting couch. In my high school in New Jersey in the 1980s I remember a bunch of guys wearing blackface in a group costume of the black supremacist cult MOVE who were in a standoff with cops at the time in Philly. Nobody cared. It was a laugh, like other fellows who wore a dress. Silly looking, that's all that was ever intended.

The Klan costume is more disturbing though, there's not really a way to hand wave that off as other than racist, given what the Klan is all about.

Whatever, this guy wants to let babies be murdered in the delivery room and nobody said he was a monster. I am okay with them saying he is now for this.

This is, essentially, a form of Orwellian thought control.

He is a Virginian after all. What is he supposed to do for Halloween? He can't be a confederate. He can't go in blackface. He can't make fun of the Klan. What's he supposed to do -- go as a Democrat? Now THAT would be beyond the pale by anyone's standards.
