So what was the advice you gave her?

Basically how to read a room and how to see opportunities when they are not clearly presented. Foe people in the industry for a while these are obvious but newbies don’t see it.

For example: “the cheapest engagements are add ons.” I told her to keep an eye out for areas in a project where the client doesn’t have resources which could provide a large result for a realtively small investment.

She saw that the client was wasting a lot of time doing data collection and correlation without the skills needed. She suggest to the PM that we propose a small team to do those functions and apply the deep background my (then) company had in analytics to do what they were trying. She and I had a follow-up conversation when she saw this and I helped her frame the proposal to the PM.

The client agreed, we got the contract, she got the promotion. I got nothing tangible except the knowledge I helped her along in her career.

Thanks to pound me too none of these conversations would have happened.
