I just told this to my BIL last night while walking the dogs. The left has gone too far with the SC hearings and the shooting will begin soon. It’s just a matter of who shoots first but it will quickly escalate. It is inevitable.

Nope. No way.

EXACTLY. We're no where close to a shooting conflict. Never have a group of humans lived with such a high quality of life as we have in the US today. It is very easy to give away liberty when you're well fed, have outstanding medical care, and a tremendous amount of perceived freedom.

We, as the overtaxed class are too small to revolt on that alone, despite carrying the load of so many freeloaders.

There is zero chance of a shooting civil war anytime in the near future. Even door to door gun confiscation virtually zero chance of any meaningful armed response... although I also don't think we're anywhere close to that...

If the Dems impeach and remove, you won't even have much in the way of peaceful protest by his supporters. Maybe a few here and there, but nothing meaningful. We're 150 years into a slow surrender of most fundamental liberties, and there aren't many left that could trigger a shooting conflict.

I have studied history for decades, from times long gone to far more-recent examples, and this is an unbroken pattern.

Marxist leftards believe that we are determined in the sense that we can affect history in no other way than toward communism. Communism is inevitable, as dictated by the laws of history, which are governed by the dialectic, which demands a struggle.

...a super simple oversimplification of how nuclear bombs work.

It's a metaphor, Butch.

If Texas becomes an independent republic again a lot of us are going to come there. We need some kind of way to identify the friendlies....

“I don’t think an all-out shooting war is necessary. A few targeted disappearances of key figures in the media, entertainment world, academia and politics, and encounters with a Bulgarian umbrella, should send a clear message that the game is over.”

That is stooping to their level. Unfortunately, we are heading into an unorganized shooting war. Like unto an huge family feud. IMHO

Why is a seemingly unrelated paragraph about the economy sitting in the middle of all this?

I'm going to presume that with him being an economist he's under the belief that is the direction the trigger event he's talking about will come from; political animus turns in to a shooting war when the the economy falls apart.

Denninger's normal gig is writing about the economy, thus his blog name "Market Ticker". I think he just needed to toss that in there out of habit.

I don’t think I am on anyone’s list because I do not spout off about politics in mixed company or have bumper stickers.

I think the intermediary point between losing to the Left, continuously forever and a shooting war is some sort of splitting up of the USA into smaller more homogenous nations.

In 1989 the USSR, the other great continent spanning superpower ruled by Leftists and made up of restive peoples, was able to split into components without war.

I'm not sure why we would not be able to.

One problem I see is that even the most Red states have a large number of Blue people in them. (And vice versa).

In a lot of states their are distinct geographic areas controlled by one of the other, so the existing State borders might not be the right places to draw borders for the new polities.

“If our children are throwing a temper tantrum, what do we teach them by responding with stronger violence.”

While the Left often acts like children, they aren’t children. They are adults and they will eventually try to kill you because of your beliefs. That’s where this is leading. Many are off the leash now and physically coming for those on the Right. You can try “rising above” that...but, I personally, will use stronger violence to defend me and mine.

“I don’t think I am on anyone’s list...”

If you vote, you’re on the voter rolls. If the voter rolls are public, you’re on someone’s list.

In Texas, the border counties, from El Paso to Brownsville, are largely Democrat and predominantly Hispanic. Then there is Austin, aka Berkeley East. The larger cities, Fort Worth excepted, are run by Democrats, and there has been some slippage in GOP support in suburban counties like Fort Bend, Collin, and Williamson. In California, the Central Valley and the northeastern counties are highly resentful of the leftist madness emanating from Los Angeles, the Bay Area, and the coastal areas. The conservative strongholds of Orange and San Diego Counties are at best purple to light pink.

If there is a breakup, the model would not be that of 1861 to 1865, with the failed Southern secession, nor the mostly peaceful breakup of the USSR in the early 1990s. It would be more like Spain in the 1930s. Except for the Hispanic dominated counties along the Mexican border, the Mormon country centered in Utah, and the Black Belt from the Mississippi Delta eastward to the Georgia Sea Islands, there are no real ethnic enclaves like Yugoslavia had.

Even in deep red areas, like New York City or San Francisco, there are a lot of conservatives, many of whom stay silent out of fear of ostracism or worse. The reverse is true: a liberal would be wise to hold his tongue in the Texas Panhandle or western Kansas. In a Spanish style civil war, these dissidents would be useful in intelligence gathering or guerrilla operations. After Franco won, tens of thousands of his opponents were executed, multitudes fled to France, Mexico, and elsewhere, and hundreds of thousands were imprisoned. About 200,000 died in combat. Had the Communists won, the toll would be even worse. Keep in mind that Spain is much smaller in both size and population than the U.S.
