Two Samurai met one early morning for a pre-arranged duel. They stood upon a bridge at sunrise in their full regalia, squared off to each other then stared at each other until sundown, at which time they disengaged and both went back to their camps. Back at camp the trainee of the Samurai asked “master, why did you not draw your blade?” The Master replied “there was no opening.”

If the shooter and the Husband were masters and in control of themselves there would have been no fight.

“If”.

But there was a fight. And you wrote "As a high ranked martial artist and a fan of handguns it’s up to me to decide where the confrontation goes.”

But it’s not entirely up to you. Your opposition has a say too. In the case of the Samurai, that they each came to the same decision doesn’t mean that they didn’t each have a decision.

And as a…well, you don’t need to know, I’m deciding that this confrontation between you and I ends, even though you may decide to have the last blow.
