This is Politico so take all of this with caution, but Josh's own words would make a killer ad for Claire because he says several times that he didn't really want to run. He only did because Wagner dropped out.
He doesn't go to many local events. Has to be forced to call into the local talk shows. Pisses off GOP organizers left and right. And worst of all, he doesn't seem worried about the upcoming election. It also bothers me that he seems to care more about his current job than the much more important one he's campaigning for. He should resign whatever he's doing today and campaign around the clock from now until November. That's what a winner does.
Saying he didn’t really want to run is hardly what would kill his chances. He could turn it around and say, “Yes, that’s true. I didn’t. But I was called to run.”
Of course, if Hawley continues to act criminally disinterested in the job, maybe he should drop out (or at least let him win the nomination and then be substituted - which is the only way Wagner or someone else of stature could get the nomination).
