I’ve always had trouble with the rack slide. After a evening of stuggling with my Ruger LC9 I reaized it was the DESIGN of the grip. It is so SMOOTH it requires greater hand strength that many, many people, including ME, have. Thus our fingers just slide off.
Brainstorm....I carefully cut a strip of adhesive backed carbide grit strips and put one on either side of the rack.
Instantly, enough FRICTION to rack the gun with ease.
The original strips ar still on the slide.

Haha! I was about to reply to your post before reading who the poster was....."Hey...try some adhesive grit strips on each side of the slide. My father-in-law figured that one out."

But...then I saw who posted....nevermind.    =;^)

The S&W Shield in 9mm has a "tough" rack slide IMO.
