I’ve really wanted to get an AR in 300 blk, just have not gotten around to it. I know others that have AR’s chambered in 300...I agree one only need to see the rounds side by side to know which is better for defense and big game.

As a result of my recent boating trip, I find myself in the market for a new TEOTWAWKI, or SHTF rifle. Thinking a .308, 6.5 Grendle, or 300 BLK. Problem is, one is more likely to come across .223 ammo in the field, so that’s a factor. Then there is the reasonable doubt of surviving until one runs out of ammo and needs to loot some. So, is it another poodle shooter, or do I step up?

Seeing as how 5.56 is now cheap and readily available at just about any Wal-Mart, I’ll go with it.

Must be a slow gun news week or something. This is the not-so-new "9mm vs 45" discussion that's passed threadbare.

And yes, I own both BLK and 5.56. Have hunted with both, super and suppressed. They each have pros and cons.
Gun writers are fullashit.

“-The .300 BLK is still great when you either can’t or care not to have NFA firearms.
-If you find yourself in a state like California defending against zombies, with a tight magazine ban and zero NFA goodies, get the bigger bullet.”

I’ve often wondered... the 300 still stacks like the 5.56, but what about the .458 Socom ? It turns a 30 round mag into a 10 round mag.

If you own one of these uppers will the state consider your 30 round standard capacity mags 10 round mags ?

All
I’m perplexed and bothered by the continual use of “AR platform”. Heck, you never hear about the bolt action, pump, lever, single shot or break open “platform”. Why not AR style or type? I know Jerry Miculek is famous for use of the “platform” but I find it inappropriate. rant off

Ruger has produced a Mini-14 in 300 Blackout for several years.

I built a .300 BLK upper to go with a lower I assembled at the same time. With 125 grain Nosler ballistic tip bullets, it is a fine short range deer killer. It is also very accurate.

I got tired cutting and forming 5.56/.223 brass to make .300, so I built a second upper in 5.56/.223. Now .300 brass is common, so I no longer need to cut. Still, having the skill and tools to cut is good.

.300 BLK is a fine round. But for SHTF, I'll take the longer effective range in 5.56 or .223.

If the 300 Blk is an improvement over the 5.56, then the .30 RAR is an improvement over the 300 Blk.

The 300 Blk is anemic for a 30-cal and there are few bullets — if any — that make it suitable as a dedicated subsonic cartridge.

300?

Why do it when SKS and AK’s are abundant and cheap?
