Dicks Sporting Goods has suffered a surprisingly steep downturn in sales since promising to sell fewer guns, but the problem isnt the gun sales, Fortune says.
Stock tumbled to the lowest in four months after the sports store banned assault-style weapons from its Field & Stream stores and raised the minimum age for a customer to buy a firearm from 18 to 21.
However, the store has also suffered problems with overstocking and high discounts, as well as increased competition from places like Nike and Amazon.
After the Parkland school shooting last month that killed 17, Dicks executives were aghast to learn that the young gunman had bought one of his many guns from them, though not the one he used in the shooting.
As a sign of solidarity with the student protesters calling for gun control laws, Dicks announced it would no longer sell assault-style firearms and high-capacity magazines.
The athletic gear company instituted a similar ban after the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting but rescinded it a few months later and returned to selling assault weapons. This time the ban is permanent, Dicks says.

“...they will likely lose sales across their inventory.”
There you have it.
While I probably never would’ve purchased a gun from Dick’s (too many cheaper guns elsewhere), I would’ve purchased other items...camping, shoes, clothing, etc. Not now though.
A good example of my boycott tendencies...I haven’t been back to Target since they allowed guys in girl’s bathrooms...and STILL would not return if Target reversed that policy. They’re dead to me. JC Penney too.
These leftist companies want to stick their political necks out? Then they'll get what's coming to them.
Ill continue to not shop there.

It's the same thing Delta is learning - virtually nobody used the NRA discounts, but misplacing the blame for murder onto the NRA affects a lot more people than members. You play class warfare games at your own risk, and sometimes the shareholders get a little cranky when it starts to pinch.
Yep, and as I noted in an earlier thread, I would not at all be surprised to see the board eventually sack Stack.
I sent them a note telling them I am taking a stand.....against them. I will never buy anything from them ever again. I had been an occasional customer before that.
You mean TU?......................
A bigger issue for Dick’s is declining participation in youth sports. Athletic participation for kids ages 6 through 12 is down almost 8 percent over the last decade, according to SFIA and Aspen data.
Only the leftists are surprised. No one at FR is - in fact it was predicted.
This is jut me, but I don’t do pay-pal. It’s a history thing...
It’s going to get worse for them. I quit shopping there, my wife quit shopping there and several of my friend’s entire families have stopped shopping there. Not just for a few weeks but for good. I think this is going to have a lasting negative effect on them and they deserve it.
Someone who is going to buy those types of guns, may buy plenty of other gear. If the can’t get the gun at little dicks, then they are probably not stepping in the store.
The REI types who would applaud little dicks for their stance won’t go and actually spend any money there. In typically libtard fashion, somebody must make a sacrifice, it just ain’t me.
The sales problems are not THE problem with Dicks.
Or buy used. My new driver is a Taylor Made r540.
You don;t feel bad for wasting someone’s time to go off later and save a couple of bucks?
Don’t you have a conscience?
Shop at Cabela’s, because they are not Dicks.
I won’t even use GameChanger, the baseball scoring app, any longer. Dick’s owns GameChanger. So ADIOS.
