for a goodly portion of the population, legally owning a pistol is out of the question let alone getting good using one a shotty is prolly their only and best chance at home defense for little training and higher first round hit probability

Comedian Bill Burr has a bit about picking a 22 pistol for self defense, and being mocked by his gun guy friends. His answer is if someone breaks into his bedroom and he misses in the dark with a 44 mag he’s going to be deaf and blind for the second shot. It’s a fair point.
