If you have the ability to discern between crap and reality, you don’t have to give up TV. You simply control it, so it doesn’t control you.
Good for you if you can handle it.
Some people can handle alcohol. Winston Churchill could and did.
Some people can handle heroine, or cocaine.
Some, I am sure, can handle television, as supplied by the networks and cable.
Life without TV works better for me.
And that’s cool.
