The case against Net Neutrality: An IT pro's perspective

As the vote to determine the fate of Net Neutrality regulations looms in the FCC, I've been taking a harder look at where I stand on the issue. Personally, I've got vested interests as a consumer that relies on many net-connected services in my daily life. And professionally, I own an IT business that lives and dies by the availability of countless net-centric ecosystems. But every angle from which I examine the issue upon, I keep coming back to a common conclusion: Net Neutrality just isn't needed.

Less government involvement is, in my opinion, the right solution to almost every issue.

About the only exception is national defense — border security and military readiness. I want government funded to provide that stuff.

But net neutrality? Education? Retirement savings? Health care? Please — give me less government!

Good read.

Trump has the right instincts on this.

“Net neutrality” heavily favors Google.

Net neutrality is a liberal coined term and like all liberal-speak, means the opposite of what you think.
They don’t mean neutral and left alone, they mean choked and regulated to death with the aim of censorship, restrictions and the ability to levy a tax to pay for the regulation and graft.
The only thing that is good is NO government involvement or oversight. Markets and services will level themselves to the satisfaction of the users without anyone’s help.

Years ago - before this became an issue - and before I had ever heard of it - a young communist at a party was extolling the benefits of 'net neutrality'... Than and condemning the 'abuse of Africa' by the US by our taking "earth elementals" whatever the hell that was...

People who hate our country want 'net neutrality' and I wish I had questioned the guy at the time...

My gut tells me when people who hate our country want it, it's probably bad stuff...

This is correct. There’s a good little book out called “the Fallacy of Net Neutrality” that spells out the great examples how aweful net neutrality is.

(Another great book on the subjects “ the Political Spectrum”

What’s the most disturbing is the extent that Fake News, including the idiots at Fox, keep repeating the government talking points , and the idiot millennials and libtards buy every single bit of this fraud hook line and sinker.

And in reality they have absolutely no idea what net neutrality is about.

In the future, we will be at the mercy of this ever increasing population of useful idiots.

““Net neutrality” heavily favors Google.”

It heavily favors the content providers over those who actually built and operate the internet.

It makes the carriers mere regulated utilities like your local phone provider, or power provider...limited to eight cents on the dollar in profit. And FORCED to sell their services to their competitors at cost.

That’s what will kill the internet as we know it. The march of broadband will stop except as forced by government regulation and subsidy. Additional leaps beyond the 40gbs backbone (to 100gbs and beyond) will be stillborn.

The internet will be frozen in it’s current state. All the while the content providers are free to make as much money as they can even though the people who built the internet have no reason to invest in further expansion.

When the great bandwidth crunch comes, OR the complete burn down of all available IP addresses under IPv4, the content providers will then scream for further regulation to force the carriers to invest without return.

Net Neutrality means Marxist Internet.

And I’ve been in the network business for over 40 years.

Net neutrality is a liberal coined term and like all liberal-speak, means the opposite of what you think.
Just like “Affordable Care” is wildly overprices and of little value. And then there is the classic, “liberal” - a word which described people we now call “conservative.”

Establishment journalism is leftism, and accordingly any positive word will be twisted into a label for some evil or another.

Obama and Soros, 2 fantatical marxists are for net neutrality.

Soros the marxist is behind this “net neutrality” :
http://ijr.com/2015/03/270555-soros-groups-dropped-82-million-push-net-neutrality-interesting-thing-happened-placeholder/

On February 26, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) passed 400 pages worth of new internet regulations, the details of which were released Friday.

It’s not a secret that left-leaning groups have advocated for “Net Neutrality” rules, but the amount of money thrown at the cause, and the sources, might be surprising.

The Media Research Center found that the Open Society Foundation, run by George Soros, donated over $82 million to “pro net-neutrality groups” between 2000 and 2013.

Between Open Society and The Ford Foundation, close to $200 million was doled out to push for net neutrality.

MRC also reported that the Ford and Open Society Foundations joined together February 11 for an event called Net Gain, intended:

‘“… to launch a major new partnership’ to deal with ‘significant challenges at the intersection of the Internet and philanthropy.”’

At the event, The Ford Foundation’s President, Darren Walker, said:

“The Internet rights are civil rights. And like so many other civil rights, they need to be secured, safeguarded, protected and celebrated.”

Walker then lauded FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler’s plan to regulate the internet as a public utility:

“… the direct consequence of the tireless efforts of many of you in this room, the organization you represent, to persuade, and to challenge, to evangelize” the principles behind net neutrality.”

One of the Soros-funded groups, Free Press, heavily lobbied the FCC and, according to the Daily Caller, “their pro net-neutrality arguments” were cited 40 times in the 400 pages of regulations.

Free Press’s co-founder, college professor Robert McChesney, has advocated for government subsidized journalism:

“In the end, there is no real answer but to remove brick by brick the capitalist system itself, rebuilding the entire society on socialist principles,” McChesney wrote in a 2009 essay.

To have people on here defend this marxist tyranny these communists call “net neutrality “
is ridiculous. And the Ford foundation is a communist group. Also the NY times , wash post et al are for net neutrality (all the marxists are). There was nothing wrong with the Internet for the first
few decades before the marxist Obama (and Soros) imposed their 400 pages of “fixes” to a non-existent problem
in 2015. Now many even one here a conservative forum are calling for obama’s initial 400 pages of soros government
regulations to stay. ridiculous
. If you supporters of this bs want socialism so badly why don’t you just move to Venezuela now
and join in the starvation and long lines for non-existent toilet paper.

It is my opinion that freedom last as long as Trump is president and pai is protecting the internet. not much longer after that. Obama was adding even more government regulations to all areas of the economy . This and this net neutrality will return once Trump and pai aren’t there any more. This WatchungEagle seems to be a liberal mole imo.

It's great Trump is repealing Soros and Obama’s net neutrality regulations today ! where is the party here for all of us as now Trump just saved the internet and freedom?

The Internet got to where it is without this communist Soros bs net neutrality. It's just the marxists’ attempt to ruin the internet like they ruined U.S. healthcare with obamacare.

It's amazing so many conservatives were fooled with this net neutrality bs.

I see so many idiots doing protests wildly screaming for their stupid net neutrality : why don't thees morons just move to Venezuela right now and stand in line all week for nonexistent socialist toilet paper . These morons are screaming for socialism in the USA .idiots

“Net neutrality” heavily favors Google.

Google is the worst thing to happen to the internet. It is an extortion house whose consumer utility is easily replicated by hundreds of other sites but which commands the internet by auctioning off its search returns to the highest bidder.

#GoogleGoAway.
