Appeasement as a strategy has never worked long term. There is going to be a fight. Heck, there already is a fight. The fighting will continue until one side, eg. western freedom and liberty, or the other - islam, is completely destroyed. The two are fundamentally incompatible and there will be violence as long as both exist. We just need to nut-up and acknowledge this fact.
