I live in Newtown, CT - just a few miles from the Sandy Hook shooting. My wife's church is just around the corner from where it happened. Despite what you hear, it's a very nice area to live. Wonderful people and actually quite conservative as a whole - it is the urban areas along the coast that make us a blue state.

As for Wilton, CT, it is one of the absolute safest, crime-free areas you could live in the country. It's also very expensive, as you probably realize if you researched the area. But the $70/hr consulting job will get you by just fine if you choose a reasonable home.

I haven't read the replies yet but I bet a lot of the Freepers are going to tell you not to make the move. I've been around the country myself, Iowa, Alabama, Georgia, California, Illinois, Massachusetts and now Connecticut. I can tell you that this part of Connecticut (Fairfield County) is very affluent yet can be very woodsy and rural depending on where you choose to live. I love hiking and there are so many trails I haven't even discovered them all yet. The traffic can be pretty bad but once you learn backroads, you can avoid most of that and get around quite easily. We do have some pretty intense winter weather at times but spectacular summer and autumn weather.

Freepmail me if you want more details.

CT refugee now in Atlanta, Georgia.

Lived in Hartford Darien, New Canaan and West Redding. Fairfield County. Lowell Weicker turned the Nutmeg State into a welfare state in the 60s or 70s. Knew every County backroad. Refuge for NYC elites in full cooperation with the Genovese construction family business, where nothing gets done quickly..
Got everyone of my family out.. long ago. Good memories linger of Tokeneke, God’s Acre and the next station to Heaven

I was born and raised in Fairfield County, but moved to redneck country over 40 years ago. Although we love where we are and I could never move back to the northeast, my wife and I always enjoyed our trips back “home”. It’s too bad that so many of your voters are morons and keep electing fellow morons to run the state.
