I have good woman friends,my daughters have good woman friends, and so do my granddaughters.

Woman friends often see each other through the bad times-——and they like the same type of movies.:-)

No woman has a woman friend?

Sigh.

Do you live in your own sad little world?

Fortunately I live in a milieu of splendid, dedicated, life-loving and formidable females. They illustrate the whole thesaurus of virtue. They laugh and cook and do philosophy and oversee doctoral theses and drive paratransit vans and grow pole beans and nurse babies and drink beer. I would like to spend my whole life in their company. We are friends now, and I expect us to continue this way into eternity.

Jesus likes them, too!

nurse babies and drink beer

That is an unfortunate combination.

"nurse babies and drink beer" ...That is an unfortunate combination.

On the contrary, that's a most wholesome combination.

Thus saith Thomas W. Hale, R.Ph. Ph.D., member of the La Leche League Health Advisory Council:

"The absolute amount of alcohol transferred into milk is generally low. Beer, but not ethanol, has been reported in a number of studies to stimulate prolactin levels and breastmilk production. Thus it is presumed that the polysaccharide from barley may be the prolactin-stimulating component of beer."

In any case, the toxic byproduct of alcohol metabolism, a compound called acetaldehyde, doesn’t pass into breast milk at all.

Beer --- not in excess of course --- also relaxes and rehydrates the mother. Something about the B vitamins there, too. It is so highly recommended among Central Europeans that German lactating mothers are sometimes prescribed beer while nursing.

So, basically, the childcare practices of Angela Merkel's mother.

Although I would say that, hands down, toxic males outnumber toxic females,

Really?

Hands down?

I would say the opposite: toxic females vastly outnumber toxic males.

A rather dumb comment. You may as well blame it on the Lutherans.

An old tradition among my Polish relatives, substitute Vodka. Keeps the kids quiet through the night.

It’s apparently not the alcohol in beer that has the positive effects for mother and nursling. It’s the polysaccharides and other nourishing contents. For a nursing boost, non-alcoholic beer works just as well as the alcholic kind.

Under no circumstances would I expose a baby to vodka. Sure way to knock off a couple IQ points.

And if the mother drinks enough alcohol to get buzzed and then nurses baby in bed, I’d be afraid she’s setting her little one up for an overlaying death.

Good ol’ beer: while rocking baby in the rocker. That’s the way to do it. :o)
