On Monday, NBCs Today finally discovered the elusive secret to happiness European-style socialism. While taking a bicycle tour of Copenhagen with National Geographics Dan Buettner, correspondent Cynthia McFadden proclaimed: For 40 years Denmark has ranked as one of the happiest places on Earth....the Danes make life less stressed and more joyful.
How you might ask? The reporter explained: Here, no job is less than any other....[garbage man] Alan Christensen works just five hours a day, but earns the same as a school teacher. Buettner proclaimed: Ambition is not celebrated. No matter what you do, youre no better than anybody else.

In a conservative, reasonably regulated form of capitalism, under the God of Nature and Nature’s God, competition is a friendly, competition meant to uplift and teach both winner and loser for the progress of the ages.
It is the cuthroat rino, corporatist, globalist form that destroys and a total lack of competition that de-energizes.
They have 6 million people———we have 43 million IMMIGRANTS.
Can’t compare the countries.
“Ambition is not celebrated”
Right out of what is known as “Jante’s Law”.
Big in Minnesota BTW.
One, if I were a teacher I'd be pissed that the garbage man working only five hours a day is paid the same as me. Nothing against garbage men, who are performing an important task, a dirty job that I don't want to do. But five hours a day?!
Secondly, if there is no ambition, that sounds like a recipe for stasis.
I had a good Danish friend, nurse. Visited Denmark several times. I would not say they were a particularly happy people. It was beautiful (flat as a pancake), and clean. But she worked damn hard just to get by, paid what we would consider exorbitant taxes, and did not have and could not afford a car. Its a pretty quiet life....
See this:
Sorry, liberals, Scandinavian countries aren't utopias
Another old Danish friend once told me, for every Dane working, there is another Dane on his back.
Depends.
What does he produce in those five hours?
And on a side note I do not understand this fetishism for all things European exhibited by the MSM and the intelligentsia. What has Europe given us the last hundred years - communism, national socialism, and fascism. Add up the dead resulting from these and it’s well over 100 million. Our Constitution is older than most modern European democracies... by over one hundred years. Spain and Greece were under military rule within my lifetime.
And what works for Denmark, a largely homogenous society of only four million with a good work ethic and much more established and older national identity than ours, does not necessarily translate to a heterogenous poli-cultural melting pot (or mixing bowl) nation of over 300 million people.
Socialists HATE working....but, by gawd, you better pay them top $$$ for the little work they do!
Yep! Because they use the government to kill their competition by lobbying for regulations only they can afford.
Exactly. Socialists, commies, leftards etc. They all DONT want to work. And they blame the “rich” for being “greedy”.
That’s as good at the “trollolo dude”.
But, but, but. ........that’s SEXIST!!!!!!1!1!1! /s
I knew an American who lived in Sweden. He came back to visit and work while living here for several months. He was a very lazy person. He said how wonderful it was in Sweden with all the days off you get.
The eternal dream of the liberal slacker. :)
The school teacher also works just five hours a day then the class is handed off to a second teacher that works five hours a day because, let’s face it, five hours a day with these rug rats is about all anyone can handle without alcohol or hard drugs.
