Yes. Consider the pure propaganda of “For Whom the Bell Tolls”. The reality? American, English and others who ran to fight for the so called Republicans were essentially fighting for the Commintern, which had inserted itself in the conflict between Franco's Nationalists and the Republicans.

Franco was not a saint, but a hell of lot better alternative than the leftists, who were essentially anti-traditionalists, who hated the Church.
