Wouldn’t there be some record of this or at least some remnants of the contraptions he uses?

It's possible there were remnants and records at the library in Alexandria, but the muzzies burned it all down. What A holes they were and are.

Then there was the programming director at NBC who in about 1975 decided to have most of the network’s daytime programs and other shows kept in it’s archive chucked into either a landfill or New York Bay. If I had Marty McFly’s DeLorean or Doctor Who’s Tardis, I’d want to both visit the library at Alexandria and NBC’s program archive before both got destroyed.

Please know your History. It was the Christians. Library of Alexandra was long gone before Islam came on the scene in the 7th century.

Uh, try the Romans - specifically Julius Caesar’s army - who burned it in 48 BC. That the Moose Limbs finished the job in the 640s, but what was remaining at that time was probably a far cry from what had been there nearly 700 years earlier.
