We are looking to relocate from Columbus, Georgia to Phoenix, Arizona. Two members of my family suffer from the local pollen and humid weather. We also need to be closer to traditional Catholic Latin Mass and Sacraments. Wonderful as Columbus is culturally and politically (in the region, not the city proper), there aren't a lot of local traditional Catholic resources.
I have been stymied in my attempts to even get so much as an interview for the jobs I apply for online.
Presently, I work in IT (storage/servers/backup) in the financial industry. My skills are not cutting edge and I am not a programmer/developer, but in the past I was always able to get interviews at least. Any of you Arizona folks know of a good strategy for finding good employment in the area?
Please don't try to sell me on other parts of the country, my wife and I have done our research, and this is where we wish to relocate.
Thanks for providing information from a social source I find more trustworthy than almost any other.
I can understand your dilemma.
Perhaps when you apply for a job, you might want to include right in your cover letter that you plan to relocate to Phoenix on your own expense, that way they would know you are not expecting them to fund your relocation.
Also, re. the health coverage, I think everywhere there is an option to continue your coverage at your own expense, but it would be the same coverage you have now. It would give you and your family coverage for a while.
I think this health ins continuation is called COBRA.

There are only four things that are bad in Phoenix ... June July August and half of Sept. That being said ... I do love Phoenix
I drove him out there in August. We were going to play golf.
Could not go outdoors. 112 degrees.
I was supposed to fly out the next day but the airport was closed because the runway melted.
It's quite different from New England.
I would never go back but if I did it would be Mesa.
That’s interesting. I was at Motorola in Chandler for SV50-78.
Lived at Dobson and Ray.

Thanks! Love that song. Can't remember last time I heard it. Just downloaded and added it to my ever-growing 60-70s pop collection. Thanks again.
My soft skin gave me away?
He calls it the best song he never made any money off of (after all the expenses).
I’ll have a few more for ya later - those were great times in a lot of ways.
Instead of Phoenix, wouldn’t it be cheaper to just move to Phenix? I mean, it’s just across the river and all.
I agree with the poster earlier about the heat in South Georgia. All the heat of the desert, but, none of the dryness.
I have lived that desert. The heat is relentless.
Worked at Price and Elliot, then at Broadway and Dobson, until 1997 when I joined the start-up world.

I’ve never seen so much white trash as in Tucson grocery stores. Tats all over the place and obvious human carp. No wonder it goes democrat.
I live in the Valley/Lanett area. Like you, I’m in IT - have been for twenty years. Moved here from Western Maryland. I want to go back to the mountains. You never know how much you miss snow until there isn’t any. The air here is like hot soup, the pollen is lethal, I’ve been infected with every deadly bug that lurks in the grass, the leaves in the fall go from green to dead, and the local wildlife down here is like a petting zoo of Things That Want To Eat You. But I wouldn’t go from a sauna to a food dehydrator, though. Cactus and bare sand doesn’t appeal to me. Give me about three acres of maple, oak, and white pine with access to a trout stream up in the Blue Ridge foothills somewhere, and I’ll worry about the damn bears when I see one.
I’ve got a place there I want to sell.
I love the Colorado high country. Even the later summer moonsoons provide shade with the clouds and the rain takes the edge of the dry alpine heat.
If you like a dry climate, its either the mountains or the desert. If the desert like in Tucson, build up your heat tolerance.
When it comes to AZ, you’ll love it or hate it. Phoenix wouldn’t my first choice - I’d prefer the mountains or if that’s not possible, the desert.
And AZ isn’t overtaxed and overcrowded like liberal CA to its west. Good quality of life and affordable standard of living and if you do move there, you won’t miss the ocean.
