I can prove that at least 74% of all taxes were paid by the South. (Which was only 1/4th of the Total US population.) I've seen others who using Department of Commerce records, claim the total was around 83%.
So the realistic range of what level of taxes the South was paying should be between 74-83%.
The South was also paying for the bulk of all the commercial shipping in the United States, on the order of 90% of it.
New York got very rich from handling the South's exports to Europe. Washington got very powerful taxing the European imports to the US which were paid for by those Southern exports to Europe.

This was actions by the so called “Great Emancipator” President Lincoln. There is a very ugly story there for those that revere Lincoln. Lincoln did not view blacks as equals. That is fact.
The only damn thing that Lincoln did right was to preserve The Union of the United States of America. This was done at great cost in treasure and lives of both North and South. On this point Lincoln was right. Otherwise his presidency should live in shame.
Slavery would have ended without a war. Lincoln tore the guts out of the nation and set the stage for Federal Government rule as opposed the rule of the individual Republics of the United States. He is not a man to be admired.
The Civil War was based on two issues. State rights and slavery. Today we only hear about the horrors of slavery and it was a horror. The war that tore the guts our of our nation could have been avoided and slavery would have also ended in 10 to 20 years. Economics is why it would have ended.
As mentioned above, Lincoln is not a man to be admired!

If you go to Arlington Cemetery you will find the graves of Union Soldiers and Confederate Soldiers. They by choice are buried in the same soil with their once enemies whom they used every skill they had to kill each other. We are a great nation. All the soil in that cemetery is sacred. Today they lay together as brothers in arms and at peace with each other.
