Police lobby group urges lawmakers to scuttle national reciprocity

A coalition of police chiefs with a history of supporting gun control initiatives are taking aim at national concealed carry legislation, saying it could “sow chaos.”

The National Law Enforcement Partnership to Prevent Gun Violence, composed of an alliance of various police chief lobbying groups, on Friday penned a letter to Congress urging lawmakers to decline support for a pair of national concealed carry reciprocity bills. The measures, the H.R. 38 and S.446, respectively, would expand carry rights nationwide, in effect forcing states and local jurisdictions to respect all valid concealed carry permits, a move the group feels is a mistake.

“These misguided bills would preempt local and state perspectives on what’s best for communities by forcing states to accept weaker concealed carry standards of other states and eliminates every state’s ability to determine who may exercise the enormous responsibility of carrying a firearm, concealed or otherwise,” says the three-page letter.

Every single leftist, anti-gun, anti-freedom group in the country is voicing protest against these bills which restore part of our 2nd Amendment rights.

So for the convenience of a few law enforcement agencies, lets just surrender our rights to defend ourselves. That has worked out so well throughout history....

The more I see the police bureaucracy against it the more I think the legislation is a good idea. The police are NOT your friends

If one goes thru the trouble to acquire a proper handgun license, then it should be accepted across state lines as this is afterall, the Constitution of the UNITED STATES not just the state in which you reside.

Not a good enough argument. What is really going on is that Red States are licensing people for concealed carry, and Blue States, such as California, New York, Illinois, Minnesota are making it extraordinarily restrictive to hold a concealed carry license, thereby denying the right to carry.

This is about the Blue States trying to force their way upon the rest of us. Under the 2nd Amendment, and if I am licensed in my state, that's it, I should be able to carry in a Blue State.

If marriage and drivers licenses are covered under the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the Constitution then so are CCLs.

Exactly. Excellent point. The 2nd Amendment applies to ALL states. Any other powers not articulated are appropriately granted back to individual states.

California and others can get out of this by simply banning all ccw’s in their state.

Hi guy. Hope you are doing well.

“If marriage and drivers licenses are covered under the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the Constitution then so are CCLs”

You know that facts and logic have no place in government. What were you thinking?

Exactly, and marriage and driver’s licences aren’t protected by an amendment.

They can try. Can a state usurp the U.S. Costitution?

Here’s the way to fix this from the grassroots.

First off, you find out who comprises the National Law Enforcement Partnership to Prevent Gun Violence. Fortunately, their website states it clearly on the very first page:

•Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA)
•Hispanic American Police Command Officers Association (HAPCOA)
•International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA)
•International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP)
•Major Cities Chiefs Association (MCCA)
•National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives (NAWLEE)
•National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE)
•Police Executive Research Forum (PERF)
•Police Foundation (PF)

From: https://www.lepartnership.org/

Next, start researching if your local chief and/or senior officers and/or various aggrieved minority command officers are members of the above organizations. If so, start making noise with your local council representative that taxpayer funds are being expended for political purposes and you want it stopped. Extend this to your state legislative representatives as it relates to state LE agency personnel, too.

If you think the 2A means what it says and the reciprocity measure in Congress is the way to ensure it happens, then this is the only way you can overcome it. This type of group carries weight in Washington so it has to be cut off at its financial knees.

Most large organization police groups are headed by a chief of police under the thumb of a big city politician and most assuredly a lib dem. They are not elected.

Exactly. This more of an Article IV, Section 1 issue than a 2n Amendment issue.

BS- it hasn’t ‘sown chaos’ in any state that does allow it-

States that completely ban CCPs would have to allow pretty much unfettered open carry, the sticking point in law appears to be you can’t deny both. Right now blue states can get close by claiming they allow permits and then hardly ever issuing them while banning open carry.

If my state issued driver’s license is valid in all states, then so is my state issued carry permit. We either have national reciprocity or we don’t. Hint: its not the people with carry permits you need to worry about. (I think this is known, and the whole thing is pandering to noisy hoplophobes.)

I believe CA can and has. SCOTUS has not offered much relief.
