I think they made up the gloves part, Sure, I would be extremely upset if someone was going through cars. But I believed that showing them that I had nothing of value should have calmed their anger. I could easily prove that the phone was mine, and the iPod had my name in it.

I feel the same way about myself. I would soil myself, if I was being held at gunpoint, no matter who it was.

I make good money, I have a nice home, good amount of savings and no debt. I don’t drink, smoke or do drugs. I didn’t get this way breaking into cars.

My first thought is that you live in a blue state. Confirmed.

I’ve had things like this happen, as well as attempted robberies. My recourse is simple - I don’t go anywhere unarmed.

Same here. I'm always armed. But I also live in a free state where being armed is not frowned upon by the state.

They "could have" done a lot of things.

They didn't.

What do you want to make of it?

Find a high rise building and climb up and down the stairwells. If you encounter any children, push them down the stairs.

Seeing that they weren’t letting continue to walk home until the police came, they did things; including making me fear for my safety.

Yeah, hopefully soon, I will leave it. Would probably take a huge hit on my home sale.

Calling the cops was wise.

It does sound like the cops were stupid since you were the one who phoned. Thieves don’t call the cops. I can understand them asking a little but they should have been concentrating on the thugs and why they were threatening a citizen,

They probably lied like nothing else about their version of the episode. One thing they cannot explain is why they felt the need to get out of the vehicle and what they hoped that happen at that point.

Climb the stairs for exercise. You aren’t likely to encounter anyone else as they are all riding the elevators. Don’t push children down the stairs. That would be wrong.

That is an excellent suggestion. Stair climbing would probably be a nice change from walking, as walking can get a bit dull after awhile. I work in down town hartford, and my job has a lot of stairs as well. at least I would be protected from the unhinged.

On another note, I think children are extremely honest, more so than adults. But these kids were honestly mistaken. The party looked to be about 100 yards from the road, and I don’t recalled even seeing anyone. The only reason I looked that way is because they had that big inflatable slide (about 20ft tall) and thought it would be nice to get one for my son’s birthday party.

What does one do in this case? Those two men could have put me in the hospital. The cops could have arrested me based on the kids’ statements.

...

Now you know why veterans of the legal system don’t give much credibility to witness testimony.

Just chalk the whole thing up to experience and forget about it.

“Just chalk the whole thing up to experience and forget about it.”

Yeah, that is all I can do. I will get a head cam before I run or walk again. I don’t know if it is practical to run with a gun on me. Perhaps a taser.

My husband was once in a similar disturbing situation and was close to being beaten up when out on his daily walk in our neighborhood by two angry men before he could even figure out what on earth they were talking about. But what I would suggest to you is that you be sure to wear brightly colored gym clothing which telegraphs clearly that you are someone out exercising. Walk during the hours when you’d normally expect people to be out exercising - not after dark or late evening. Also, don’t be taking a gun along. You did the right thing in calling 911. If you really need a gun when on a walk, you need to move or at least find a new route. Or better still, join a gym and stop worrying altogether. Gym memberships can be quite inexpensive nowadays and you can get a better work-out.

I was wearing a navy blue long sleeve shirt. I will get some neon shirts. I have a few given to me by vendors at work.

I am glad I wrote this thread. The advice I got was very good. I got spiritual advice, encouragement, practical ideas such as a head camera. also, people, such as yourself, sharing your similar experiences , is very enlightening.

It is really amazing how a peaceful situation can go to danger in the matter of a moment.

An alloy .38 snub is easy to carry, and is a very effective way to deal with people like that. If you are over 50 you have a good case for defense against two younger large aggressive men.
If you are over 60, you are very justified to go to it for defense. You need not accept that first possibly lethal punch.

Oh, I just saw, Connecticut. That’d be a good way for that guy to get his lamp blowed out if he tried that in Albuquerque.
