I have been watching the Father Brown Mysteries series on PBS. It is bracketed by two other good shows, a doctor series and “Coroner” after it. I like both, but the heavy British accents of the doctor show make it hard to understand sometimes. What amuses me is seeing the characters smoke, and the old technology (one telephone for the whole house/office).
I turn on the closed caption for British shows.
Could the doctor series you have been watching be The Dr. Blake Mysteries? It’s on Netflix, and is a good series based in Australia. I watch a lot of British programming. I download a lot of it from UK torrent sites. Eventually some of them come to Netflix. To combat the accent problems, I started watching everything with the subtitles. I record all my regular TV programs, and watch all of them with closed captions. It really helps, and if you don’t understand something they say, you can rewind and check the subtitle out. I guess it’s a sign of old age to have to use subtitles and closed captioning, but it makes viewing a lot easier, especially with the DVD movies today. If you turn up the volume to hear what the characters are saying, you have to turn it back down when the loud music or special effects kick in.
