The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will begin building prototypes for President Trump's proposed wall along the Mexican border this summer, authorities said on Tuesday.
Agency officials said at a news briefing that the department is ready to begin testing designs on land that is already owned by the government. Four to eight designs will be built and tested, but officials didn't say when the process would actually begin.
We own that land, have access to it and its a good place to start testing in a real-world environment, acting deputy commissioner Ronald D. Vitiello told reporters at the briefing.
Funding for Trump's border wall was not included in the budget submitted by the White House for fiscal year 2018, but DHS has allocated $20 million from other programs to pay for the prototypes.
Officials at U.S. Customs and Border Protection told The Washington Post that they have received "hundreds" of designs for the border wall, but the agency has yet to choose vendors.
Designs for the wall should be at least 18 feet high and have features to prevent climbing over and tunneling beneath the structure, and vendors are instructed to make the designs "aesthetically pleasing" on the U.S. side.
That won't work for the desert areas. There, I suggest a scorpion and snake trench.
Protesters? Just shove them a little to the south and watch how Mexico deals with illegals.
Forget the wall. Employ chain gangs of illegals and dig a trench wide and deep. Imagine the ones trying to cross seeing what will happen to them when they get caught. Leg irons, a shovel and a wheelbarrow.
I wonder if this guy ever spoke with anyone from “team Trump”?
Not a bad plan, hire four or five contractors, have each one of them have a bunch of install crews, pay them all each Monday for all the work they did last week. Almost elegant. 12-18 months to secure most of ugly portions along the bridges across the river from lerado to El Paso. I wonder why this never got more traction than it appears? It’s not a “wall” but a fence along the river would be quick and give Pres. Trump and team time to sort out the issues with a true wall border along the river portion of the border.
LOL, spy...!
