Capitol Police Officer Crystal Griner a lesbian in a same-sex marriage was among those wounded during a shooting this week in the Virginia suburbs and received a visit from President Trump during his trip to the hospital to see the victims.
Griner was among the five people shooter James T. Hodgkinson wounded on Wednesday during an incident at the Republican congressional baseball practice. On the House floor, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) praised her as one of the officers who saved lives during the shooting where House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) was badly wounded.
According to CBS News, Griner and Special Agent David Bailey rushed Hodgkinson despite their own wounds. After being shot in the ankle, she was taken to MedStar Washington Hospital Center for recovery.
President Trump visited the officers at the hospital along with first lady Melania Trump, who presented Griner and her spouse bouquet a flowers, according to a White House press corps pool report.
Griner graduated in 2006 from Marylands Hood College, where she played on the basketball team. Capitol Police Chief Kim Dine is quoted a CBS News report as praising Griner for her work during the shooting.
She is amazing, and shes a hero, Dine was quoted as saying. She epitomized what being a heros all about.
Trump also hailed Griner for her efforts in a statement in the Diplomatic Room of the White House shortly after the incident.
Many lives would have been lost if not for the heroic actions of the two Capitol Police officers who took down the gunman despite sustaining gunshot wounds during a very, very brutal assault, Trump said. Melania and I are grateful for their heroism and praying for the swift recovery of all victims.
Not sure what her being a lesbian has to do with it. She acted with courage and professionalism. She deserves all the accolades she gets.
Why is this any more important, or tragic, than any of the other victim So?
Was the word lesbian in the title...if not can we not use it ....this woman is a hero who helped save this country a mass murder of congressman.
President Trump didn’t single this police officer out because she was black, or female or lesbian. He related to her as one person to another and as the President of the United States to a police officer.
Did the headline for the other officer read: Straight black guy a hero for killing the perpetrator.
I assume from the name that it’s a gay newspaper.
It’s a stuoid bi-line, that “Objectifies” the officer.
Sadly, I'm sure that some gays and some blacks will “disown” and berate this brave woman for helping to save all of those Republicans. (Hmm - I'm guessing some women will too.)
You know what I would REALLY like to see? That this woman would come out at some point and say “Yes, I'm a lesbian black woman. And while I may not agree with them politically, and did not vote for President Trump, I am a citizen of the United States and believe in ‘Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness’ for everyone. Even if it had not been my job, and my duty to protect them, I still would have - knowing that my skills and training could stop this terrorist.”
Not in a million years! :)
She did a heroic thing. She did her job well.
Just because you’re paid to confront a gunman with a rifle if he starts shooting doesn’t mean you’re GOING TO!
Both of these police acted courageously and I have NO IDEA what being a lesbian has to do with anything.
Lesbians can be brave or cowardly, just like any other group.
As for her lifestyle, God will judge her life, not me. He’s better at it.
that is an LGBT “news” paper.
As I understand leftist orthodoxy, gays are supposed to hate Republicans because,
a. Republicans won’t force churches to participate in gay “weddings.”
b. Republicans (some) are against importing jihadists who (among other things) hate gays and want to kill them.
Evidently, having a live-and-let-live attitude where people are free to disagree is “hate,” but supporting coercion and jihad is “tolerance.”
I read a media blog published by a gay man who lived in DC and retired to Delaware recently and you got it.

Agreed.
And guess what? She was protecting a man with whom she profoundly disagrees on every issue.
This obsession the left has with sex is in itself a sign of mental instability, isn’t it? I have and DO work daily with people who are homosexuals. I don’t agree with their behavior and things are just fine between us.
“...a lesbian in a same-sex marriage...”
Tell me again, why do I need to know this?
The public just HAD to know this...
This attempted mass-murder is described as an “incident”?
Just in case you think you (or Laz) can hit on her.
At least Trump is getting positive press in that. I guess. Headline should be “Hero Cop Gets Visit From Potus”.
