A Turkish textile company that purchased the assets of the former Microfibres firm is seeking $125,000 worth of incentives from the city of Winston-Salem and plans to create up to 390 jobs, according to a story in the Winston-Salem Journal.
The newspaper reports that the Winston-Salem City Council will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. June 19 for Tukek Holdings Inc, which has requested the incentives to offset the costs of a startup called HPFabrics Inc. Tukek plans to invest $3.85 million over five years to upgrade the former Winston-Salem facility of Microfibres. The local jobs would pay $31,310, plus benefits.
The firm is seeking $125,000 worth of incentives.
HPFabrics was formed in February and its top executive is Rafet Tukek. Tukek spent $5.92 million to buy the assets of Microfibres, including the Winston-Salem plant. The startup plans to make greige goods and finished flock products from the plant.
Tukek said it has more than 1,100 employees, three plants in Istanbul and $140 million in annual revenue.
Microfibres was a producer of fabrics for the furniture industry that went bankrupt last year and closed its facility on Kimwell Drive in Winston-Salem, eliminating 125 jobs. It also closed its two other plants, in Rhode Island and Mississippi.

Will Tukek Holdings also import the 390 workers from Turkey (which self-identifies as 99.8% Muslim), or will they hire from the massive infusion of immigrants already here in NC? The Charlotte area is already becoming a no-go zone (and turned the tide of the Governors race back to the Dems). We’re loosing the Greensboro/Winston-Salem triad rapidly enough, without importing more Muslims into our metro areas. I’m neither Islamophobic or racist, but I’ve got eyes and see the invasion happening in our country and the cities here are not our father’s North Carolina anymore.

I’m not real sure that incentives for a shop that pays $14.25-ish an hour are worth the effort. $125K isn’t a big ask, though.
10 or 12 years back Dell Computer built a plant near Winston and received millions in public incentives. The facility was shuttered after the 08’ crash and Dell eventually paid back the incentives.
