I disagree. While neither is likely to come up directly, being able to tackle them demonstrates a degree of general knowledge and skill that will translate into solving problems that will come up in the workplace.
Selling drugs in the “hood” is not going to look good on the resume.

I need a bigger bladder. The number of graves which require an annointment by my piss keeps growing. Fonda, Carter, Schumer,, Reid, Pelosi,.....
And the list never stops growing.
Also, wearing your pants slung beneath the arse and a hoodie, to a job interview, doesn't bode well for the vast majority of jobs.
Many can’t even tell time with a non-digital clock or watch and write in script.
SPOT ON...ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE FEMALE!
My advice to POC (persons of color):
It is most likely NOT your color that is off-putting, but rather your ATTITUDE. Lose that chip on your shoulder, start talking to and treating folks the way YOU want to be treated, and I just bet you’ll be amazed at how well you’re received.
In case you missed it I’ll say it again - the problem is not your race - it’s your ATTITUDE.
>>Numerous paragraphs of angst about black unemployment. Not a single sentence of concern about whether said unfortunates actually possess marketable job skills that will get them employed.\
It’s worth noting that the vast majority of young blacks in the Atlanta area (home of the newspaper for the source article) have been taught in school systems that are run by blacks, have been for some time, and spend quite a lot of money on a per student basis.
They can’t blame lack of skills on discrimination by whites.
You’re so right; we’ve probably never had so many blacks in this country with diplomas, degrees, and certificates, yet we’ve probably never seen such poorly educated/trained people since slavery. BTW, I’d say the same for young whites as well.
One of the worst unintended problems of affirmative action is related to what you describe. Preferred minority students that would qualify for a county college are bumped up to state schools, and those that would qualify for state schools are bumped up into the Ivy League - and in every case they are less prepared than the “real” students. They quickly realize they are in over their heads, and gravitate to “safe” courses that do nothing to prepare them for a 21st century job market.
No accident that so many end up either working for the government or as placeholders in companies just to fend off discrimination lawsuits. On a positive note, working in a company with tokens provides a lot of job security (along with a lot of work others are simply unable to perform).
Yep - and they never delve into the social conventions and willingness to work as equals, with no special benefits, as part of the reason.
Every group that came here assimilated and worked hard to succeed.
One refuses to excel in school or work hard. And it is far past time their excuse of slavery as that ended 150 + years ago.
What if we don’t last a thousand years?
Why work a challenging job when you can “fight for fifteen?”
