sometimes I don’t think of stuff for a long time until somebody triggers the memory on threads like this.

Looks like this was a good one for you.

In the running for "Best Musical score & studio recording of songs with Worst Lyrics (Ever)".

According to Tony Banks, it has the "worst lyrics ever" part sewed up...

I’d vote for the intro to “Dance On a Volcano”.

Well, my best musical memory came during our Youngster Cruise to England and Germany. On the way back, one day out of Norfolk, Virginia, the Captain of our our amphibious transport dock, USS CORONADO, gave the crew permission to play music on the flight deck after dark.

Pitch black except for the wide band of the Milky Way shining down, I heard The Moody Blues for the first time .. The Story In Your Eyes, Nights in White Satin, For My Lady .. several albums' worth. I became a Moody Blues fanatic that night ...

The Who may have been the kings of great intros, like for “Love Reign O’er Me.”

Don’t know about the greatest but ‘Light My Fire’ sure evokes memories of the ‘Summer of Love’, the Monterey Pop Festival, the Haight and the rest of it.

Though I was a soldier in waiting and didn’t believe any of that crap, hippy girls were easy.

“Journey To The Center Of Your Mind” is a great choice. I think the opening note to “Hard Day’s Night” also belongs on the list.
