I agree - on both counts!
Yes, we are all very grateful FR is back up, but I think serious consideration must be given that business as usual cannot continue.
Look, in my opinion, I honestly, and respectfully, believe Free Republic has become far too valuable to our national interests to continue having it run from a kitchen table.
Happy to contribute, but a committee, selected by Jim, should be formed to lay out a plan to keep FR protected and sufficiently updated to prevent future catastrophic failures.
I am not speaking in hyperbole that FR has grown in national value beyond what it may have originally been envisioned to be, but FR is bigger now than even Jim Robinson himself. Steps must be taken to protect it and to allow it to grow.
I am all for Jim (and John) retaining complete control of their baby, but there are a lot of smart FReeper loyalists who could be appointed to volunteer their expertise to preserve what Free Republic has now become.
Special fundraiser? Fine. But because of the value of FR I believe a master plan needs to be laid out — for the sake of the nation.
