“Whichever battery-car maker develops the ‘golden’ battery which can take a charge and deliver 500 miles....will be of immediate interest to Apple”.

The long evasive golden battery; whoever comes up with it will be rich beyond words. But, the challenge is not just range, it’s recharge time. Ask yourself this question; you and the fam are road tripping across country and its time to recharge. How long would you be willing to sit around and wait on a recharge? Would it be one hour, 30 mins, 15 mins? For me it would be 15 mins, 30 mins if perhaps at a truck stop and the fam has to do a pee break and maybe eat lunch. That would be the max for me.

Storedot, an Israeli company, claims to be developing, and have demonstrated a battery that will charge in about five minutes that can be used in cell phones and the like.
Battery packs can also be placed in vehicles with the same charging expectation rate.
