The Constitution would not have to be amended for this idea to pass. The 25th amendment provides for the VP and Cabinet...”or of such other body as Congress may by law provide,” can vote to temporarily remove the President. Under the Dem’s plan this group would consist of former Presidents. Now, this plan would have to pass both houses of Congress (with just simple majorities) and be signed to become law.

And who would be the ex-Presidents? Why Carter, Bush I & Bush II, Clinton, and Obama!

But even partisan hacks can see the danger of such a proposal. Three of the men on the current list might not live much longer. Then you’d have a committee of two with the power to overturn an election.

The republicans could do more to stop this hate from the dems. They could speed up the progress. They could defend and protect the President by openly cooperating with him... by showing their support... by pushing legislation he is asking for... by letting their self righteous superiority go by the wayside and making him THEIR President!

Why would Donald Trump want to run for a second term! The treatment he’s received is beyond the pale... and he had a great life before being the President. So why would he want to do this again! HOWEVER... if he ran again, I think he’d win again... and that defeats the left... it destroys the liberals/democrats, living in their hate and total denial that Trump is President. And President Trump is no quitter!

This bill does not require amending the Constitution. The author does not understand the 25th amendment or this bill.

These people are beside themselves because Trump won and Hillary lost.

Maxine Waters leads the pack in calling for Trump's impeachment just because "I don't like him."

Getting impeached because some loser Leftist doesn't like you basically comes down to saying the opposing party can impeach the president because he's not one of them. Gee, how convenient.

This legislation won't go anywhere. Blumenauer is just playing to his constituent base who hates Trump.

“Since they could only do that with GOPe help, this is not going to happen. If Ryan & Co. did that, the Republican Party would be wiped out in the House elections next year.”

...and that’s why the Wall is so important, and why Bannon is so important. What you say, that we have Trump’s back, only holds as long as Trump is seen trying to push through his agenda, starting with the Wall - and Bannon knows that - but I’m not sure that Trump fully understands it. Trump may well think he’s leading some kind of personality cult (especially with the left saying that day-in and day-out), but HE IS NOT - his campaign was successful because of ISSUES - and if he strays, we’ll dump him and hope that Pence does better...and when that day comes, the price for Ryan and others for dumping Trump will be small, if not zero.

So it’s up to Trump - first thing is the Wall. Get that started and he’ll have a lot of breathing room for other stuff. But waffle there...and it could be a short presidency.

They do not have the power to amend the constitution with a bill.

The article stated that the bill was being filed as an amemdmendment to the constitution. The big sticking point in the passage you cite would be “as congress may by law provide”. Also we are talking “temporary removal” which means there would have to be detimination point as to what “temporary means”? If they voted to Temporarily remove the president but then congress decides they will not impeach or if impeached, the senate will not vote to remove...can they keep him “temporarily removed” and run out the clock until the next election? You see why this is such “bad law’?

I believe the writer of the article is misinformed. Why even try to go to the trouble of amending the Constitution, when simply passing a law allows them to make the change?

Also we are talking “temporary removal”

Sec. 4 of the 25th Amendment spells out the procedure: To paraphrase, the VP and majority of cabinet tell the Speaker & President Pro Tempore that the President is unfit to continue in office. The VP becomes acting President. The President can send a notice to the Speaker & Pres. pro tempore that he is fit to do his job (this can be the same day) and by that notice he resumes office. If the VP and Cabinet again send notice that the President is unfit, it then goes immediately to a vote in Congress, both houses must vote by 2/3 majorities. Congress has only 21 days to decide—if they don’t President remains in office.

I believe the writers of 25th were thinking of Eisenhower’s heart attacks and Wilson’s stroke and the dangers of a coup being staged the VP and Cabinet.
