The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) reports that the burden of illegal immigration on taxpayers in Tennessee for both state and local expenditures jumped from $285 million in 2007 to $547 million in 2013, according to a FAIR 2013 study.
To add to that burden, proposed legislation that would grant eligibility for illegal aliens to receive in-state tuition is being considered this session by legislators at the Tennessee State Capitol.
In most cases, the discount for in-state tuition is roughly 50%, leaving Tennessee taxpayers with half the cost of tuition for each illegal alien student.
State Senator Todd Gardenhires SB 0635 & SB 1014 and Representative Mark Whites HB 0660 & HB 0863 seek to abdicate the legislatures delegated authority to a Board of Regents or some other un-elected body governing Tennessees post-secondary schools. With slumping attendance rates, the decision left to un-elected boards to fill empty seats in the classroom will take priority over compliance with federal immigration law and public safety.
The summary for SB0635 states:
This bill authorizes the governing body of each public institution of higher education to determine the qualifications that students must possess to be eligible for payment of in-state tuition and fees. All students who are not eligible for in-state tuition must pay the out-of-state tuition and fees set by the governing body.
To heap even more on the taxpayers backs, Senator Jim Tracy (R) amended Sen. Gardenhires similar bill, SB1014 to include students in ALL of Tennessees eight surrounding states within 100 miles...

What about equal treatment for citizens in those adjoining states under the law? Why bother with citizenship if it subjects you to taxes, military service, higher tuition for your kids, etc? And the GOP? The termites have eaten deep, indeed.
Swamp snake souls. What is wrong with the GOP?
Gardenhire is my idiot...
No I didn’t vote for him...I got Gerrymandered into his district from a solid Conservative...
:(
What is wrong with the GOP?

They are a wholly owned subsidiary of the Cheap Labor Express
Out of state tuition for citizens will still apply.
These people need to be Cantorized.
Wow.
BTTT
Traitors!
These are Republicans. In Tennessee. SMH.
RINO legislators people of Tennessee know what to do next election.
I object to stealing (taxing) citizens to give to illegals. Every measure should be to encourage them to go home.
Personally, I’d deny education of any kind to the illegals.
Let them go back to where they came from if they want an education.
Why not build schools, colleges, clinics, sports training facilities, Home Depots and WALMARTS in Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala?
Give the dreamers some hometown dreams
These Tennessee Republicans are swimming against the tide. They’re going to pay with their political lives for doing so.
This is OLD news, this went down in flames in the Legislature. The one main rep pushing this crap is from Memphis one of the larger concentration of illegals in the state. He has vowed to bring it up again next year, when it will again go down in flames.
What the heck is happening to Tennessee
The Tennessee Republican Party is infested with country club liberals. Haslam, Alexander, Corkhole are the leaders of this insanity. You have a conservative state but they all govern like Howard Baker liberal democrats.
I’ve never had a GOP legislator in my entire life in Nashville. I’m in a Voting Rights Act Black Democrat Senate seat (Thelma “The Mad Hatter” Harper).
We need to not let Trump’s election blind us to the fact that the same open borders scum infest the Republican party at all levels just as they did before the election.
Trump is the very beginning of shift in conservatism and the GOP. 99% of the work is still to be done. Most GOP elected officials at all levels are bad and need to be replaced.
