Wait, before we get to the guns, just to clarify that we’re talking about having these three guns for survival.
Some folks have talked about the .357 revolver as a primary SHTF in many internet forums and this has stirred up the hornet’s nest. Mainly due to the age demographics, for instances, folks that are from the older generation would agree with the .357 revolver. Where the younger millennium generation will stick with the striker based handguns like the Glocks in 9mm.

You can salvage far more mercury from old silent wall toggle switches than from a mercury thermometer, as well as the switches being easier to find.
Solid reasoning. Long term survival begs a 22lr (my choice would be the M&P 15-22) rifle, a Heritage Arms 8 round 22lr / 22 magnum single action revolver, and a Bulgy AK74 or AR 15 in 10.5 inch barrel. If truly long term survival is the issue, a good 20 gauge shotgun and reloading stand would be useful over the AK74.
For close range - Scorpion EVO in 9mm
For mid range - AR-15 in .223 or 7.62x39
For distance - Barrett .50 BMG

My Heckler & Koch HK45 has problems with some hollow points. So though my H&K is threaded for my suppressor ... I prefer my Ruger 1911 ... just have to find some hi capacity mags for it

Where I live (Alaska) a 12 ga shotgun is an excellent all around choice. From #4 shot to magnum bear slugs, the 12 ga is versatile and powerful enough to handle just about anything from geese to moose; from bird hunting to bear protection. Obviously, if hostile humans become a problem, the 12 is up to the task.

My AK 74, our Mossberg 500 tactical and my Ruger P89. I would also hope to have the 10-22 as a fourth.
A side arm, a shotgun and a rifle.
Semi auto side arm and rifle, pump shotgun.
Maybe a 1911 (.45), 12 gauge (00), and 300, 30.06?

If you were to only have Three Guns for Survival . . .
- A 12 gauge Remington 870 to shoot the guy who said I could only have three guns
- A .22LR rifle and .22 LR pistol, both for small game and for self-defense where I could carry a lot of ammo
- A center fire rifle and center fire pistol for self-defense and large game (both bolt and semi-auto for the rifle, both revolver and semi-auto for the pistol)
- others as toys and for backup.
Well, it does depend on whether “survival” situation is due to civil unrest, or just out in the wild.

I agree with the .357 magnum revolver, because it will take standard .38 Special, .38+P, and .357 mag. Thus, it is very versatile re: ammo.
I’d also insist on a .22 LR rifle, either a Marlin 60 or a Ruger 10/22. In a bolt action, I’d go with a Marlin 25.
Finally, a 12-gauge Remington 870.
Got them all no worries.
