Its the one drink you dont want your new date to order during your first outing.
Some Chicago bars are using a new method to help protect womens safety. CBS 2s Audrina Bigos shows us a secret code system that triggers a silent alarm if women feel theyre in danger.
Inside New Line Tavern in the West Loop, Marisa Kersten noticed a sign in the ladies room. It tells women how they can get assistance from the staff in event a first date implodes or is turning scary. They need to repeat some secret codes at the bar.
Staff member Justin Witalka explains:
If you order an angel shot, that basically means we will know to escort you to your car or the bus stop. For an angel shot with ice, that means were going to call you an Uber or Lyft. For an angel shot with lime juice, that means that we will call the police, step in and intervene to make sure that customer is safe.
Kersten thinks its a good idea because of the uncertainty with first dates.
When you meet people online, you dont know what youre getting. It could turn into a bad situation, she says.
Since putting the signs up in two bars, owners say the bartenders havent had to step in. But theyre there, just in case.
Please tell me you’re joking ... Or you’re on some pharmaceutical experiment.
What if its a second date?
It’s sort of a joke, but I’d definitely rather watch it than the lauded movies like Citizen Kane or American Beauty.
What if she used a code that actually means I have a gun and I am robbing this place?
Scary, huh? I don’t like what is happening. Sex bots are kind of here already...
Agreed. It’s not supposed to be a documentary. And I do like Sam Eliot.
Meeting for coffee is still a great first or a casual dinner. I will meet at the restaurant of my choice and even though I’m a grown woman, I will usually let my best friend know who I am meeting and were we are going. My friends know that I’m not going to go home with a stranger.
I always drive myself as well. Rather be safe than sorry.
Good idea to let someone know. I did that, as well.
Happy to say, by the way, that I wound up finding the best man in the world, who is now my dear husband.
Hope spring eternal here :) I know he exists
:)
