ROCKFORD - WARNING: This story contains graphic video of a shooting death. It was distributed to show that a security guard's actions in use of deadly force were justified. Viewer discretion is advised.
The Metro Security Officer who shot and killed an armed bank robber after the robber pointed a gun and fired at him will not be charged in the shooting.
The Winnebago County State's Attorney's office has determined the use of deadly force was justified given the life-threatening danger the bank robber presented.
34-year-old Laurence Turner entered the bank on North Mulford Road in the late afternoon of January 20th and fired a shot into the ceiling. Video shows him shooting once into the air, and that's when security officer Brian Harrison and Turner exchange gunfire before Turner then attempts to flee, collapsing from his wounds in the doorway. He died at the scene.
Turner is also suspected of other bank robberies in the area, two of which involved gunshots into the ceiling of the bank.
I boggles the mind that anyone would even think of charging the guard with anything.

Clear case of taking out the trash when needed. I don’t know how anyone could review the matter for more than a few minutes but libtards always start by siding with violent criminals.
Nice shooting, this should go in one of those YouTube videos to not stop shooting the perp until you know the threat is eliminated.

In both cases, the good guys received return fire, but were unfazed.
Also, both defenders were old guys.
Don’t mess with armed old guys, they have no intentions of fighting fair.
Why else would this story make the local TV news report?
OK, I watched the video.
Hard to see the guy's face. And no photo in the written story.
I Googled for a photo. I was wrong. The robber was white.
The quality of the crime video is excellent - for a change.
And the good guys won, too, without any neighborhood riots - also for a change.
Good guy got off at least 6 shots, but did he have a failure to chamber requiring immediate action as perp headed back out the door?
If you were the guard, would you have approached the perp, and hereby exposed yourself to fire from a possible other covering perp outside?
My thoughts; command all employees to STAY down, crawl to back of bank (possibly into the vault itself, which would be very “armored”), and the guard himself take a defense position behind counter, waiting for 911 PD backup to arrive.
Perp is (was) a honkey.

While I understand that position, allow me to present a liberal prosecutor’s view of the “lack of action”. Failure to render first aid to someone you know to be fatally injured can, and has been viewed as “depraved indifference”.
My CCW class had a lawyer who said to call 911 right away, request the cops and an ambulance, tell them that there has been a shooting at your location (provide an address) and somewhere in the conversation, say I think he is moving and hang up. That will establish that you still think that there is a potential threat. In the mean time, let him bleed out and stay away but keep him covered.
The guy should get a medal.
Prosecutorial review is standard procedure. They broke the speed record in declaring this a clean shoot, only happened 2 days ago. Prosecutors probably spent 3 minutes looking at the video on this, said “that’s a no brainer”, and then spent the rest of the”review” talking about their basketball brackets.

My bad on the date of occurrence. The video was released two days ago. It happened 2 months ago. About the right speed for gov’t types.
