THE VAST WASTELAND OF LIBERAL LATE NIGHT COMEDY

Sadly, these network executives are more committed to their liberalism than drawing viewers or making money

It has been many years since late night television comedy was enjoyable. Its heyday was during the Johnny Carson era when Americans were entertained by a host with tremendous skill. Carson was a true talent who combined great humor with impeccable timing. The Tonight Show featured the best guests and a host who knew how to hold an audience. Carson did not have to stoop to crude humor and he did not alienate Republicans or Democrats, for he made fun of politicians from both parties in equal doses. Johnny Carson was not known as a liberal or a conservative, only the best late night comedy host of all-time.

And NPR isn’t much better - actually even worse. I tuned them in this morning (accidentally) and heard such vile things being said, all in the name of comedy, about Steve Bannon that it turned my stomach.

They and their writers are lazy, unimaginative hacks who know only how to pander to their audiences’ basest instincts.

Yet another reason to stop funding NPR.

Tragically, comedy is devolving right along with popular culture. I could say that comedy today is a joke but then people would think I was trying to be funny.

Who or what is 'Colbert'?

For those of you who enjoy stand-up comedy but can’t find anyone worth listening to, may I suggest ‘Nate Bargatze’. Truly a hilarious breath of fresh air origin ally from Tennessee I believe.

I suppose some people view him as "news."

Was at the grocery store the other night and saw a couple of twentysomething girls trying to pick out an ice cream flavor and apparently had decided on some Colbert flavor from the Ben & Jerry's display. Emphasis on Colbert rather than the ice cream flavor. Amazing.

Johnny Carson was not known as a liberal or a conservative, only the best late night comedy host of all-time.

There are more channels now so networks realize that they won't get audience shares as big as Carson's were.

They aim to hold onto their small shares of the total audience, so they can afford to court one part of the public and alienate others.

Carson was a "lifestyle liberal," though. In his day, that didn't mean much politically. Nowadays it does.

If you're in show biz, live in Malibu and have been married four times, you're more likely to vote Democrat and be vocal about it than you would have been 30 or 40 years ago.

Just tell it like it is, comedy today is NO joke.

Tragically, comedy is devolving right along with popular culture.

Many years ago I read a line that went something like "humor in America, before humor soured into wit." Whenever I witness the mirthless laugh of a hyperventilating lefty ridiculing some earnest, good-souled individual who has often done nothing more than commit the sin of not agreeing with them - or the worst sin of all in pop culture: being unattractive - I recall that line.

Having grown up in a house where my dad watched late-night TV as far back back as Steve Allen (whom I somehow vaguely recall, though my curfew was at 9 o'clock), I have tried to watch various offerings since Johnny Carson left the stage; none of them have been worth even the simple effort to stay up after a day's work.

your average AM Talk Radio show is more fun to listen to than the Leftist Drivel that comes out of these late night shows these days.

This is a sad comment on our popular culture.

Carson was a Democrat but you would never know that from watching his program. His audience was the American people. It didn’t matter if you were liberal or conservative. You could tune in at any time and enjoy the program.

But today’s talkshow hosts are often snide and show contempt to anyone who is not a liberal.

I greatly enjoy the Youtube conservative channels, which are unintentionally funny thanks to all the liberal fodder. Probably has a lot to do with a masculine voice & presence. The compilation of SJW meltdowns are wildly addictive, like heroin.
