‘This is Nixon/Watergate’: Trump Accuses Obama Of Wire Tapping Trump Tower Before Election

President Trump exploded on Twitter early Saturday morning, blasting former President Barack Obama for allegedly wire tapping his phones before the election.

“Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” he declared.

“Is it legal for a sitting President to be ‘wire tapping’ a race for president prior to an election? Turned down by court earlier. A NEW LOW!” he added.

Trump has the authority to declassify almost any classified material, and could substantiate his accusations if he wanted to.

The Saturday-morning Twitter storm was striking as Trump and Obama had largely appeared to paper over their differences — at least publicly — since the election.

Why is he asking this question on Twitter?

It's called "chum" when fishing off-shore.

I have thought it was odd how Trump has continued to complain publicly about the leaks. “Where are these leaks coming from? These leaks have to stop! These leaks are serious! “
Those statements seemed to make his administration seem somewhat incompetent, but now it makes me think he has known about these wiretaps all along!

You are correct: This is a devastating accusation. Sincerely doubt Trump would make such an accusation unless the evidence is irrefutable and apparent. The FBI found the evidence when investigating the “leaks” or someone at CIA or NSA confessed and gave up the transcripts.

Trump did this many times during the last election and afterwards.

The liberals across the nation and the pearl grabbers on Fr would wet their Depends and go ballistic. A couple of weeks later, we would find out that Trump’s intel was correct, again.

“We are not even clear what Trump is alleging...”

Could it be that Trump is alleging that Obama tapped his phones during the election?

Could it be that under the guise of national security, Obama was trying to find information that would help Hillary’s election chances?

Still haven’t gotten over your Trump hatred? Why don’t you go over to NRO and read Andrew McCarthy’s thoughts on the situation.

The press is shocked that President Trump exposed the wiretapping. “The wiretapping has been common knowledge for weeks.”

The Bay Area Fox channel during its coverage of this basically said that Trump’s server in NY had been monitored re Russia contacts.

Do you have any data at this time to back up, “The wiretapping has been common knowledge for weeks.”

Thanks, Dave

I get the feeling that the Seth Rich murder is going to end up being tied to this.

This is Watergate times 1000.

How is the wiretap illegal if allowed by the FISA court?

“These tweets have simply created more questions than they have answered”

That’s the point. And now Obama must respond not knowing what evidence Trump has. Will Obama deny the whole thing? Will he claim ignorance?

Unanswered questions feed the media frenzy. The press will cover this nonstop and the dems will be on the defensive. At the very least the media narrative will change dramatically from now on.

Could be? Could be?

This is not a trivial matter about which we should have to speculate. If the president of the United States is making these kinds of allegations concerning another president of the United States he at least has a basic obligation to tell us the facts of his allegations and make them clear. He simply has not done so.

This has nothing to do with Trump hatred, read my whole post!

Wiretapping the nominee of one’s opposition party leading up to the election should be a criminal offense in our republic. This is truly Nixonian...

Nixonian? Nixon didn't order the attempted wiretaps on Watergate.

Wiretapping any American Citizen without a warrant is already a crime. This is OBAMANIAN.

Nixon was an angel compared to Obama.

I completely agree.

I know that illegal activity was done. They just need to prove it.

I hope soon!!!!!

I think this is the tip of the iceberg. Obama is terrified.

Of what is the million dollar question.

Someone in the intelligence/law enforcement bureaucracy had a applied for a FISA warrant to tap the Trump people in June, It was turned down. Renewed and granted in October, I think. The details are out there. That’s what he’s talking about.

Of course I’m upset about it. Damn all I can do about it. The people playing at that level think themselves above the law. Warrant or not, if they feel the need to intercept communications (among other things), they’ll do it.

We are after all, talking about people, as a matter of course, who routinely break laws all over the world. The fact That they’re doing it here, doesn’t surprise me.

That’s all I’m saying.
