A Whittier police officer was killed and another officer and a gunman were wounded in a gun battle Monday morning, officials said.
Two male officers were responding about 8 a.m. to a crash in the area of Colima Road and Mar Vista in Whittier, where allegedly a driver of a stolen car had struck two other cars at a stop light. When the officers arrived they were confronted by that driver, who was armed with a semiautomatic handgun, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

it’s a high-end area in The Friendly Hills I dated a it a girl off Mar Vista many years ago.
I agree very expensive area but you also its not too far from some rough areas. I know cuz I lived up in the rough areas and I was up in that area of Friendly Hills all the time

Why did the officers walk up to the car without sufficient protection, like an armored tank and body armor? They’re sitting ducks.
We just had a low life scum gang banger kill an innocent driver this morning. Stolen car and cops giving chase. 22 yo and repeat offender.
Los Angeles Superior Court records show he was charged and sentenced to various jail terms for guilty or no-contest pleas to crimes dating back to 2013:
• March 5, 2013: possession of methamphetamine for sale — 24 days in jail, three years probation
• Dec. 18, 2014: receiving stolen property — 16 months in jail
• Sept. 30, 2015: possession of methamphetamine for sale —102 days in jail; auto theft charges dismissed
• March 24, 2016: possession of methamphetamine — 30 days jail, probation
• June 20, 2016: taking a vehicle without permission — two years in county jail
• July 20, 2016: taking a vehicle without permission — 16 months in county jail.
Why was he not in jail? The dead victims family should sue the state.
This is just a few blocks from my home.
The suspect after rear ending a vehicle which rear ended another vehicle, talked those on the scene to help push his vehicle out of traffic and pushed it around the corner.
When cops showed up they told cops the person who caused the collision was around the corner. They went around the corner and the gang member simply opened up on them.
Bottom line to your question is, they were not responding to a bank robbery or shooting, but were responding to a simple traffic collision. I'm speculating the reason the cop was killed, he was simply caught off guard.
And taking a second look, there are more rounds just above the rear left wheel and front left quarter panel. The suspect was definitely unloading on the vehicle.
Probably a member of the much revered and beloved in California MS13 gang
