Regarding the Dixiecrats.

Posted on 02/16/2017 2:24:30 PM PST by Jonty30

Can anybody point to me a credible source on the Dixiecrats, as to why they split from the Democrats and infiltrated the Republican party.

It's taught that they split over black rights, though it is my understanding that they split because of federal interference over state rights.

Appreciate that. That helps clarify things a lot.

The precipitating event was the integration of the military by Harry Truman in 1947. Strom only carried 4 states and it wasn’t enough to change the result of the 1948 election, but it set the groundwork for the post Voting Rights Act split by southern Democrats, again with Strom taking the lead and culminating with Nixon’s victory in 1968.

It is intellectually dishonest to try to divorce the Dixiecrats and later flip of the south from the democrats to the republicans from the race question. It is what it is, whether one thinks that is a good thing or a bad thing.

Try ‘Dixiecrats’ in a search engine and buried in the details one will find that only a handful of Dixiecrats became Republicans, and of those who switched, only a couple had further careers of any note.

Contrast those couple Republicans with the numerous Dixiecrats who had further honored political careers as Democrats.

The “Big Switch” is a Big Lie.

D’Souza deals with this in “Hillary’s America.” Out of ca. 2,000 Dixiecrats, four became Republicans. Or maybe it was two.

Remember that the famous ‘progressive’ President Woodrow Wilson segregated the White House, Treasury Dept and Navy, which was heavily integrated after the Civil War and up to the Wilson administration. His administration actively pushed segregation, followed closely by the KKK marches and conventions in Washington DC.

Wilson was born in the Confederacy, and raised in the deep south. His father was a liberal Presbyterian that set up a Sunday School for his slaves.

Simple. They didn't.
