What happens when you have a 50 Cal and a Taxi?

and Binary Xplosives = Kaboom!
Any day where you get to blow up a car is a GREAT day for us that likes to see things go KaBoom! Of course what is the best way to make things go kaboom? Sure you can do it the traditional ways that a demolition expert would do it, but the easier and funner way is shown next.

Just shoot at it with a gun like Demolition Ranch Youtuber here, recently they got some range time down in Las Vegas. Here’s what they did to setup their molotov cocktail. D Ranch hooked up 50 pounds of Binary explosives placed inside a taxi vehicle. To detonate it he uses a Barret M107A1 firing a 50 cal bullet at the taxi from a couple a hundred yards away, resulting in a huge kaboom.

Reading about this is one thing, but seeing it on video is another level of wow!, enjoy.

Summer of 69.
Fort Sill Oklahoma.
ROTC Summer Camp.
Anti-Tank Weapons.

My turn to fire the 90 MM recoilless rifle.

My round hit the right front door post of 57 Plymouth.
Doors, hood, and trunk lid went flying.
The whole damn thing bounced about 10 feet in the air.

And your ears rang like hell. The concussion of the 90 MM Recoilless Rifle hurt my head. Glad I only fired it twice.

I really like that guy at Demolition Ranch. He also does Vet Ranch utubes, where he saves animals (he’s a vet). Love his vids.

You’re so right. They gave us a choice of firing the 90 or the 106. I had seen the jeep carrying the 106 bounce when it fired. We had to rotate as a team. IOW, you fired the 90 once and your buddy fired it once. You were on the jeep for four firings. Easy choice. No way I wanted to ride that jeep for four shots.

That’s right...a terrible experience.

The .50 Caliber was my favorite.

Never got to fire the MA Deuce. Put a bunch of rounds down range with the M60. I was one of the big boys so I got to carry the gun a lot.

I fully expected to go to Nam. I was commissioned infantry in 1970. I found out I liked active duty when I reported to Benning in Feb 71 for the Officers Basic Course. I volunteered for extended active duty and was assigned to Fort Hood. I was told to expect six months at Hood and then orders to Nam.

Hood was critically short of missile guys and I had an aerospace engineering degree. I was placed in a slot that precluded me from reassignment for three years. No Nam.

No Nam = Good thing.

I didn’t hit it that hard. Must’ve had a self destruct.

Thank you for yours.
I was truly fortunate.
I always wanted to be a missile guy and blind luck took me there.

I’m glad your missile job worked out.

I just looked at my DD-214 and I was at Benning the same time as you. I was in Infantry Leadership/NCO School Feb.- May, 1971. I liked Benning very much.

After that I was sent to Fort Carson, CO. I’d been there a week and was settling in when my Nam orders came. Lol.

What a coincidence.
I was in IOBC 18-71, Feb to May.
Good Times.

Weekends we would go into Atlanta, visited FDR house at Warm Springs, visited some Civil War sites, Callaway Gardens, etc. We enjoyed it.

I remember other classes and might have seen you. It was long ago......

My wife was with me. We had off post lodging and the TDY supplement. We went from being broke to being rich. Then we went to Hood and were broke again.

Loved Atlanta and also went north of there up into the great smokies. Wonderful times.

I understand the up’s and downs of on and off TDY.

And when we were both in Georgia, the weather was nice.

See you around the forum, friend.
