President’s Own takes the inaugural stage this morning at 9:30 and plays throughout the ceremony. Don’t miss the piece with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir - heard firsthand that it will knock your socks off.

They will march in the parade, then flit to several inaugural balls to play special music and, of course, “Hail to the Chief” when the Trumpster arrives.

Busy day for them, but they know and execute the routine flawlessly.

My grandfather was a member of Sousa’s Band.
He went to San Juan with Roosevelt’s Rough Riders.
He wanted the Stars and Stripes Forever played at his funeral.
Unfortunately the funeral home didn’t think it was dignified so they only played standard funeral music.
He died while I was in Viet Nam so I couldn’t raise a fuss at the time. Sad.

I just heard on FBN that there will be many military bands in the inaugural parade this morning.

It was also mentioned that this was not the case four years ago.

It's Morning in America Again!

I’ve had the pleasure of attending two concerts by “The President’s Own” Marine Corps Band. They are the best of the best! I love the Sousa marches, but one piece I would love to hear them (or one of the other excellent military bands) play is “Fanfare for the Common Man” by Aaron Copeland. It would be particularly appropriate to play this in honor of Donald J. Trump’s inauguration today.

When Marines gather, as with the Marine Corps band on this inauguration day, it’s time to tell sea stories.

Marine legend tells of the gold hidden in August, 1814 during the 1812 War.

The story begins with the British Army approaching Washington. As the British troops moved into the capital, the Marine officer at the Marine Barracks didn’t want the Marine payroll to fall into British hands.

The officer ordered two sergeants to hide the gold where the British couldn’t find it. The sergeants did their duty and then joined their fellow Marines to fight the oncoming British infantry.

During the battle, both sergeants died in the fighting, thus forever sealing, in death, the location of the treasure. Rumors speak of the two sergeants hiding the gold inside the wall of the Marine Barracks. Marines searched for the gold for many years after the 1812 war, but it was never found.

Marine legend says that on quiet and dark nights, the ghosts of the two sergeants can be seen, searching for the treasure.

An equally plausible legend says that the two Marine ghosts are in fact leading any treasure seekers away from the treasure’s place of concealment until given the proper order to reveal the gold’s hiding place.

STARS AND STRIPES FOREVER, and YOU’RE A GRAND OLD FLAG should be alternate National Anthems.
