Foxconn-Sharp considering LCD plant in US

OSAKA -- Hon Hai Precision Industry and its Japanese subsidiary Sharp have begun studying the possibility of building a liquid crystal display panel plant in the U.S., a Sharp executive said Friday.

The plan is "on the table," the executive said. "We will make a decision carefully."

The Taiwanese electronics contract manufacturer, also known as Foxconn, and its Japanese alliance partner SoftBank Group reportedly told Donald Trump they would jointly make significant investments creating new jobs in the U.S. when SoftBank Chairman Masayoshi Son met the President-elect in New York last month.

The joint investment plan was proposed by Son, the Sharp executive said.

With Trump urging American manufacturers to bring operations back to the U.S., Hon Hai is considering production in the U.S. due to its huge market for TVs and other home appliances.

How is it winning? or America First to have foreign companies “create” jobs for Americans?
Something not right/good about this.

In six months, nobody will be able to recall the name of the 44th POTUS. He will be wiped off like a bug on the windshield.

I dont mind foreign companies creating jobs here.

How many foreign jobs do American companies create?

I can hear Donald now. “You like the protection from China? Do the following and you’ll keep getting it” :)

You’d rather only have American firms invest in plant in other countries?

I worked for a Foxconn contractor here in Texas about 10 years ago. Best paying salaried job I ever had. So you don’t want “foreign” companies to come here and hire Americans? That ship sailed before the Revolutionary War. We’ve always had companies here from elsewhere, just like every other country has.

Large, multinational companies are publicly traded. So I could care less who owns them since the owners are the shareholders.

Where they employ people to manufacture their goods is what matters.

LOL!

I had to look up how it’s made. Very interesting.

Most people now supposedly take LSD in the form of a quarter inch piece of blotting paper containing the drug.

That’s different :)

Let it be so!!
Mine is; In less than 8 days he’ll be nothing but a nasty, faded-out, fudge stain on a worn-out, tossed away pair of Lady Liberty’s under panties.

China and Japan became what they are today by importing foreign firms, and letting the foreign firms train their citizens how to manufacture. Unfortunately, we have actually lost a lot of manufacturing skills, because it has been a whole generation since the jobs have left. Let them come in and train us.

I worked for a Japanese company here in America for 20 years. There is a problem with it based on my experience. They do everything they can — including retroactively changing the costs on components sold to the American subsidiary — to prevent showing any profits in America. That means no corporate income taxes. They still have to pay the employer side of FICA and of course the employees are paying FICA and income taxes, but it still gives them an unfair advantage over American companies.

This is one of several reasons I advocate replacing the Corporate Income Tax with a Gross Receipts Tax, which is essentially a Sales Tax but on all businesses regardless of whether they are Wholesale, Retail, or Services. A GRT of 1% would completely replace the revenue of the Corporate Income Tax.
